First debate

Meh. Neither McCain or Obama made any serious mistakes. People who were going to vote for Obama before the debates are going to vote for Obama after the debates, and I think the McCain supporters remain McCain supporters.

I must admit my experience of the debate was very fractured. I kept running into the other room to check out what my tweeps were saying on Twitter (”FESTOONED!”), so I kept missing parts here and there. Watching the debates on Twitter was a lot of fun and I had to restrain myself from treating it like IRC, which, at times, I think I failed to do.

I was watching CBS for the debate coverage, and they had Biden on after the debate. Watching Biden speak is like watching a Nascar race. You don’t have to bother actually watching, because you know both of them are going to go in circles, it’s going to take forever, and they both continuously turn left. The only reason to watch is for the crashes and the occasional flames. This time Biden made it to the finish line okay but when he speaks he has this “on the knife’s edge of saying something REALLY politically incorrect” vibe about him.

Update: I was going to put some links into some good comments I’ve seen so far but Instapundit already has the links. Note especially the summer camp line from JAC; my comment on the bracelets was “It’s not a debate, it’s a jewelry show!” Now that I’ve thought about it, I think it felt more like Show and Tell.

That line on Biden reduced me to tears.

That said, I don’t think much changed for supporters [rarely does in debates]; I wonder how it played with undecideds. My gut feel is that people who weren’t on Obama’s side because they didn’t think he was up to it might have been swayed by his demeanor.
