What I’m up to
I mean aside from moving. Screw moving, let’s talk about what’s really important: Photography.
I’ve been editing less, and shooting more, mainly because I’m going through an editing dry spell. I can’t get the photos I edit to look right so I’ve given up editing photos for the past couple of weeks. If you can’t edit photos, take them, that’s my motto, which is abundantly obvious if you take a quick peek at my editing backlog and tally up how much money I’m spending on hard drives.
In particular I’m shooting more digital than film, because I still don’t have a decent film scanner, so everything I shoot I just file away in a box until later. I’m looking at my growing film developing backlog and my growing scanning backlog that I can’t even do anything about, and it’s a bit of a disincentive to shoot film. I have lots and lots of frames I’m really excited about but they’re going to have to wait for a while. I’m still averaging a roll of film every two weeks though, and a lack of a scanner isn’t going to stop me from putting a roll or two through my new camera when it arrives.
I’ve also branched out into videography (God help us, video is even more time consuming to edit, and there goes the 750 gig drive I just got a few months ago). I recently bought a Casio Exilim Z-80 to take little videos of the toddler as she runs around the house. If you are perceptive you may have noticed that I said I bought a Flip Video in my youtube video on how awesome shooting in RAW is, and that’s true, I did buy a Flip video, but I didn’t like it for a couple reasons and I took it back and got the Exilim instead. Here’s my review of the Z-80 I posted on photo.net. You’ll have to scroll down a bit, and my photo.net user name is John Wilson. (This is a problem because photo.net does not enforce unique posting names so there are a few other John Wilsons on there.)
