State Fair scorecard

If you’re new here or haven’t been paying much attention, I go to the state fair every year and completely stuff myself. I just got home from the state fair, and I’m already forgetting what I ate there. Also, this year I only brought film cameras, so I’ll include the film that I shot today. Since I spent so much money on food, I didn’t spend very much money on random crap (I’m sure that will change when the baby realizes that she can get things from other people — for now if someone else has something that looks interesting, she just assumes it is theirs and doesn’t pay much attention to it.)

Food:

  • One shish ka-bob (made with all Minnesota grown ingredients), $6.50
  • One gyro, $7.00
  • One small root beer float, $4.00
  • One steak fajita from Juanita’s Fajitas, $4.75
  • One lemonade, $3.00
  • Something else, I forgot what
  • Two glasses of milk at the all you can drink milk stand, $1.00
  • One pork chop on a stick, $6.50
  • One chicken fajita from Juanita’s Fajitas, $4.75
  • Curly fries with cheese, ranch dressing and chives, $7.00. These were fabulous, and the only new thing I tried at the fair this year.

Film:

  • Finished off the two rolls of HP5+ that were in two of my cameras (one roll of 24, one of 36, both rated at ASA 1000)
  • Finished off the expired roll of 800 speed film in my Olympus XA
  • Took two rolls of Superia 400
  • Started a roll of Kodachrome 200 and a roll of expired Ektachrome that I plan on cross processing

Random crap:

  • An egg shaker. When I went to Africa, I brought my two egg shakers, which I had carefully selected and loved the sound of. I left them there and I assumed that I could get replacement shakers anytime when I got back to the US. Well, no. The majority of egg shakers sound like crap, alas. This is the first one I’ve found since then (what, six years ago?) that I like the sound of. The baby has already stolen it and ran off with it, so I’ll probably never see it again.
  • A salsa maker food processor thing. I read a newspaper article about the state fair, and the person in charge of kiosks at the state fair said that one of the top things that people buy there is the salsa maker. I happened to catch the demonstration, and grabbed a sample of the salsa. It was ridiculously good. So I bought one. The thing also has a mandoline attachment, something I’ve wanted for a while. (And it juliennes! And shreds, grates, has an egg beater attachment, an egg yolk separator, and a citrus juicer!) The final straw: my food processor is making horrible grinding noises and funny smells, so I don’t use it much any more.
  • A bar of foofy handmade soap. The scent is “Autumn Leaves,” which isn’t even available on their webpage yet. Yes, I’m secure enough in my manhood for “Autumn Leaves”, although maybe not “Secret Garden”, which smelled a little too pink and girly to me. Peggy got “Rose”, and we came home with a sample of “Almond Oatmeal” and “Avocado Mint”.
