Political Compass

Looking at the Political Compass website today, I remembered that John posted that he liked to see where he stood with it every few years. I’ve been feeling that, as I get older, I’m definitely not quite as liberal as I once was. As a means of measuring this, I tracked down my old Political Compass results to compare with new results. Apparently I’m heading in the direction of fascism. Don’t worry though, I’m probably not as much of a fascist as the rest of you yet. It seems I’m just a commie losing heart in anarchy.

From March 2005:
Economic Left/Right: -7.38 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.87

From August 2007:
Economic Left/Right: -7.50 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.72

So I’m one little square to the right of dead center on the graph. Must be that I’ve picked up enough from the extreme left to almost cancel out my previous extreme right-ness.

Woo hoo! Peggy’s a moderate! It’s interesting how someone who seems fairly conservative is left of most of the democrats.

I wasn’t able to find any of my old political compass scores, but here’s today’s:

    Your political compass:
    Economic Left/Right: 1.75
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.13

I need a Z axis for the political compass, which would measure foofiness. I kept thinking to myself “This question is posed as if there are only two solutions. I don’t agree with either of those! I think we need a third alternative. However, this answer is the least distasteful.” Foofiness would increase in direct proportion to how much an individual believed that a third (or fourth, or fifth!) option is necessary to solve a problem.

    Your’s from March 2005 was:
    Economic Left/Right: 2.00
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.15

Maybe you should suggest the foofiness option to the Political Compass people. It might end up appearing in the frequently asked questions if nothing else. I think they set it up that way on purpose though. One of these days I think it would be interesting for us to all take the test and then afterwards to take it again at the same time while discussing the questions and why we are answering a particular way. I’d like to see if any of us move and how far. Maybe we could consider that a measure of floofiness if not foofiness.

    Looks like I’m almost a Gandhi! Woo-hoo!

Never heard of this site before (I live under a rock, though), but I agree with John that there should be slightly moer choices. I’ve always felt that way about tests. Maybe I’m just too Charlie Brown. Good grief!

I am wondering, though, how one finds old scores if the site says it doesn’t keep any of that at all? So I can do it again in a few years?

You find your old score by searching for “political compass” on crazybutable.

Is there anyone out there that is a hardcore right-wing nutjob? I’m curious where they would end up. The site says they figured out the politicians based on their actions rather than what they say. So someone who supports a politician based on what they say may end up in a totally different place than where someone who supported the same politician’s actions. Theoretically a Bush lover should come out near where Bush did. Any wackos out there to test my theory?

    Keir,
I consider myself conservative on certain political agendas. However, these were my numbers

    Economic Left/Right: -6.62
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.59

I am guessing because it was more of yes or no answer that it would sway the results. I am also wondering the same thing about who could be close to George Bush. After taking this test it makes him look like a conservative extremist! Yikes…has anyone been on the right side of the spectrum yet? I have not seen a single person respond who was! Just wondering. Thanks for your thoughts.
