Thought you could escape Paris Hilton news here, did you?
A couple of days ago, I was making supper. I paused, turned to my wife, and said “Am I the only person in the country who feels sorry for Paris Hilton?”
My wife paused, reflecting. “Yes,” she replied.
Well, it’s not very often I get to do this, but today I get to prove my wife wrong. I just finished Christopher Hitchen’s article on Paris Hilton, and he nails it right on the head:
At some point toward the middle of last Friday, it seemed to me, one was being made a spectator to a small but important injustice. Hilton is legally an adult but the treatment she is receiving stinks—indeed it reeks—of whatever horrible, buried, vicarious impulse underlies kiddie porn and child abuse.
