Warning: cuteness ahead!

I’ve been remiss in updating you all with the ongoing parade of cuteness in our house. About a month ago, Caroline did two really cute things that I was going to post about, but I’ve forgotten one of them.

We were going out for a lot of walks around then when it warmed up. And all of a sudden, one day she discovered trees. She spent the entire walk with her head straight up, looking at all the branches. I don’t think it occurred to her to look up until then.

A more recent example of cuteness happened last night. We put her on the bed and started reading (we have a king size bed, so she was between us.) A few feet away was the kitty. Caroline *loves* the kitty. Nothing has ever made her happier than the day she reached out and grabbed the kitty, one ear in each hand, and gave kitty a big wet kiss on the top of her head. (Dad was a little slow to react to that one. I think kitty was less than thrilled, although she was on my lap and never stopped purring.)

Now, the baby still hasn’t figured out crawling yet (although she desperately wants to!) You could read the expression on her face: ‘I can’t crawl, but the kitty is RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF ME.’ Coordination be damned, the lure of the kitty was too much to resist. She started kicking her feet madly, and very quickly did a face plant into the mattress. Slowly, she made her way to the kitty, cooing, calling and kicking along the mattress, face first, arms flopping along behind. Peggy and I started laughing hysterically; kitty was a little concerned at this new development. After about 3 or 4 minutes she made it past the small pile of blankets and was able to make a lunge for the tail and started munching. (Kitty gave up after that and retreated to the top of the dresser.)

Another kitty story: Yesterday, the cat couldn’t get me to give her any attention at my desk, so she went and laid down on the floor almost within reach of the baby, figuring that I would take advantage of the opportunity to give baby a “This is how we pet Kitty GENTLY” lesson, and that would be better than no attention at all. It worked, too.

    Ha ha, awesome.

Wait a minute, you haven’t told me this story yet. How come we’re having a conversation on my weblog when you’re in the other room?

(Hmm. Looks like we have a new IP address.)

I forgot about it until now.

From my own experience, when the baby can move the cat will move faster. Anna only catches Dutch or Kaysa when we are holding them against their will. They are not buddies yet, but I do have a cute picture of them sleeping together, of course Anna was sleeping first.

By the way I IM my husband when he is in the same room as me.
