Sauna Kitty

Our cat likes to explore, and get into stuff (she’s Curiosity Kitty, you see.) We keep the sauna door closed for the most part, but she’s smart, she knows it’s a door. There must be something interesting in that little room!

We’ve let her explore it while the sauna was off, but she remained unconvinced that we weren’t keeping anything from her. After all, her humans go in there and then block her out and don’t let her in! There must be something secret and interesting! Maybe they open the hidden exit that leads to fields of canned food and string trees!

So last night she kept lurking around the door, trying to figure out the best place to be so she could sneak in when we opened the door. First it was around the corner, then it was right next to the door, then she “casually” (actually she was tight as a rope) walked over to the sink, and I don’t know where she ended up but she streaked in before we had a chance to keep her out. She immediately ducked in under the benches. Alright, fine, I’m not bending down near the hot sauna stove to try and get you out Kitty.

Kitty was alright at first because she was crouching low on the cool basement floor tiles (with, you know, heat rising and all that jazz). Plus the sauna was only up to about 110-115 or so. We figured that if she got sick of it she’d yowl to get let out. It was only a matter of time before we started dripping sweat right on top of her, at any rate.

She was okay with the hissing sound of water on the rocks the first couple of times, but the third time was a bit louder than the first two and she went darting out to the door, meowing like crazy.

She made it up to 125 degrees at 95 percent humidity. Pretty good for a first-timer. Now we just have to get her used to the steam noise.

She made another thorough inspection of the (unheated) sauna this morning. Still looking for that secret exit.
