Does anyone know anything about the new google groups beta? The thing that I wonder about is that “Create a new group” link at the top corner. Does it actually create a new usenet hierarchy?
(Update: I tested it out, and no, it doesn’t. I guess the way google is doing groups is different from real usenet. Google groups like, remain on their servers, I think. Also, google has a pretty good bad-name detection thing — it wouldn’t let me register alt.fan.danratherisabozo as a group, drat the luck.)
