The Frog Prince
I’m always sad when Sunday night comes. No matter what I do, even if the whole weekend is great and I spend it non-stop with Devin, it seems like I didn’t get enough. I had to work on Saturday-which sucked but hey, it’s a living. Saturday night we had dinner at our place with Jenn and Les and we grilled out. After that we looked at photoalbums of ours and I was suprised how interested they were. Maybe it was my imagination and they were secretly bored to tears but they liked to see our previous exploits. I don’t like to name drop and tell people that I’ve been here or I’ve been there because it makes me sound like a stuck up fruit, but looking at the albums was nice. On Sunday Devin’s parents took us to a casino for a bite of the buffet and a bit of the gambling. I only lost $10 so I’m not all bitter. The buffet was awesome, just beyond cool. The dessert area was really big. Blissfully big. There were some little girls standing nearby and one said to the other, “Of all this stuff in this area what would you pick?” I was astounded. One thing! So I told them that they could have all of it and they said they knew. Hunh. Later I saw those kids playing Gameboys together. Anyway, slot machines are pretty elaborate. There are all kinds of themes like “I Love Lucy”, She’s a rich girl, garage sales, and Frog Prince. I played the Frog Prince one for a while. Devin played the video poker. It was fun but I could see how people could get addicted. I almost felt addicted and I only played for a couple hours. I felt like a friggin’ idiot because I couldn’t figure out how to play a slot machine at first. The first time I put five bucks in a dime machine and hit max bet, so I ended up betting 4.50 on one game and I didn’t win anything. Bummer. I was sad about all the old people there. Even people that weren’t old gave me a greasy feeling when I looked at their faces staring into the screens. Smoking, drinking, eating, staring into the machine hoping to get lucky. I was hoping they didn’t need it that much.
On the way to the casino we drove through an area that had been levelled by the fire. The entire canyon up both sides was black and here and there were scorched foundations or stand alone brick fire places. Driveways led to flat open areas that used to be someone’s yard. I hope they had insurance. I hope, I hope.
