Hard cider dreamin’

Man, I’m homesick. You know how John has all those pictures up on his site? Well, a lot of those pictures show big leafy trees and snow and just a bunch of other things that remind me of Michigan. Even though I know they were mostly taken in Minnesota. One day I was looking at those pics and I really had to stop because I kept getting more and more homesick. At work. How crappy. So, no more pics. Then I was looking up a poetry site and there was a really pretty one about daffodils, and I got homesick again! It’s weird because San Diego is supposed to be really great, right? Everybody tells me how lucky I am because it’s always sunny and nice and there’s so much to do like go to the beach. And go to the malls and clubs or go downtown where it’s all touristy. Those places are also totally infested with people. I’m a homebody anyway so that stuff really doesn’t appeal too much. I’m more of a six pack and kick back kind of person. It’s hard to explain sometimes to people out here. But I think about how I’m going to miss the fall colors and that cozy feeling everybody gets. And I’m already missing tailgating for ND football games-I miss drinking hard cider and talking trash about the other team. I’m gonna miss the snow. Talk about dumb! Who misses snow? I like how in the winter there’s not much going on so you can relax. There’s no pressure to do anything even the movies stink that time of year. A good time for reflection. And spring! How intoxicating. Out here it just stays the same. I just need to focus on trying to blend in a bit more. Since we are living in California we have decided to try Chardonnay. I don’t get what the big deal is. It’s not my favorite wine but maybe I’m just buying cheap stuff. I feel like I’m selling out by drinking Chardonnay like I’m gonna turn into a yuppie. I hope my family doesn’t find out. Another good thing about California is you can act flaky as hell and nobody notices. That’s liberating.

We went to the video store the other day and we saw a movie called “Killer Rats” it was about some mental hospital that was in a former rat labrotory. There was another video called “Rodentz” I didn’t read that one though, I figured it would be the same thing. Did you know that porno films don’t have those plot explanations on the back. I saw one called Farmer Johnson’s Daughters or something and I thought, “I wonder what this one’s about…” and when I turned it over it was just more nudie pics. Weird. At the video store when they have movies showing they are not allowed to play anything but “G” rated movies. I asked the guy to name some forbidden “PG13″ movies and one was “Air Bud”. Thank goodness, that movie is so raunchy.

sounds to me like you need to start vinting. we just finished up making a gallon of hard cider. better than anything to be had in the store. and so much cheaper too. after that its time for you to start making wine.

Better and cheaper, sounds to good to be true. How alcoholic is it?

your choice. you can make anything from 0% - 20% depending on the amount of sugar and type of yeast. the cheapness comes from doing all the labor yourself and not having to pay alcohol taxes on it. here is a helpful link for getting started http://www.glaurung.demon.co.uk/wine/
